Tendermint is building state-of-the-art consensus and networking protocols to enable internet-scale distributed applications. We’re also building the Cosmos Network, a decentralized network of independent parallel blockchains, each powered by classical BFT consensus algorithms like Tendermint Core. How we work:

Our teams leverage agile methodologies to move quickly and stay focused. Most of us work out of our offices in San Francisco, Berkeley, Toronto, and Berlin, but some of our employees work remotely. Communication is important to us and we rely heavily on Slack, Zoom, and GitHub to help us stay in sync.

This is a full time position located in our San Francisco office.

In this role, you will:

    • Build scalable accounting processes to support multiple growing international entities
    • Own the monthly close process including; month-end journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, flux analysis, and reporting deliverables
    • Manage external consultants, champion process improvement across departments and communicate progress effectively with senior leadership
    • Support budget to actual variance analysis and crypto specific reporting (e.g. staking rewards)
    • Maintain up-to-date accounting policies and procedural documentation; assist with technical accounting analysis, including the preparation of accounting memos
    • Manage the planning and execution of annual consolidated audits with external auditors
    • Assess the effectiveness of internal controls, and design new processes and controls
    • Support ad hoc requests and analyses and other special projects

What the ideal candidate will have:

    • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably including operational experience in technology startups (blockchain,  crypto, fintech and/or payments a plus)
    • BA/BS in Accounting/Finance;  CPA preferred
    • Experience building and owning accounting close processes, with proven track record of managing within a close calendar and providing accurate and timely financial statements
    • Knowledge of GAAP and demonstrated experience implementing internal controls
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written (especially important due to the distributed nature of our workforce)
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to create easily digestible templates to streamline work and audits
    • Familiarity with  Quickbooks and Google Suite products
    • Experience in ERP, planning tools and/or AP systems implementations a plus

About our application process:

    • Qualified candidates can expect to go through a 4 step interview process. The first interview will be a call to assess cultural fit and to make sure our goals are aligned.
    • If we think there is a good fit, you’ll have a call with one of our managers to learn more about your skills and attitudes toward teamwork. If it’s clear that you’d be a good addition to the team, we’ll ask you to complete a task for which you will be compensated.
    • If your task displays a high level of quality and care we will set up a final interviews with our Ops teams.
    • The process can take up to 3 weeks.
